Petacchi Pops and Ventoso Wins

It looked like Ale-Jet had another Giro stage victory in his hands and then he had nothing. Petacchi had to start the sprint on the uphill a bit too early after losing his leadout man, Danilo Hondo in the last kilometer. This proved too much for Petacchi, who stopped pedaling well before the line, opening the door for Francisco Ventoso to take the win. An odd ending to the day! Bring on the hills and the volcanos!
